Kurt Knoth Joins Grand Haven Board of Light & Power’s Board of Directors

GRAND HAVEN, MICH., October 21, 2022 — Kurt Knoth has been sworn in as Director on the Grand Haven Board of Light & Power (BLP), carrying out the final year of resigned Board Chair Larry Kieft’s six-year term.

Knoth has been a resident of the Grand Haven community for over twenty-five years and has deep experience in consulting and process improvement. He recently retired from Spectrum Health where he was SVP of system supply chain and security services, and he is now an entrepreneur working to open a bike shop/craft brewery/distillery on the east side of Grand Haven.

“My recent retirement from Spectrum Health has given me some extra time, and I feel fortunate to be able to give back to my community,” said Knoth. “I’m very excited to get started and to meet my new colleagues!”

“I’d like to thank Kurt Knoth for stepping forward to fill the unexpected vacancy on the BLP Board,” said BLP Chair Mike Westbrook. “Your service to our community will be greatly appreciated by all.”

Knoth was appointed by the City Council after an application and interview process within a 30-day window after former Director Kieft’s resignation. Knoth was sworn in by Maria Boersma, City Clerk at the Board’s meeting on Thursday.

During the meeting, the Board also held an election for Vice Chair, voting in Gerald Witherell for the position.

The GHBLP provides electricity for approximately 14,800 customers in Grand Haven and the surrounding area.
