GRAND HAVEN, MICH., Oct. 7, 2024 – The Grand Haven Board of Light and Power celebrates Public Power this week with giveaways and the chance to win a Google Nest Smart Thermostat. Every October, the BLP joins with 2,000 other municipally owned electric utilities, collectively providing electricity to 54 million Americans across 49 states and five territories, to recognize the valuable work they perform for their communities.
“It’s a privilege and an honor to provide such a life-essential service to our community,” said Rob Shelley, general manager. “Public Power’s focus has always been on maintaining a high standard of electrical reliability at an affordable cost. Our community has invested in local ownership of its electric utility since 1896. In return, our ratepayers receive exceptional service at lower costs than customers of a for-profit utility. Celebrating Public Power during October provides another opportunity for us to reach out to our community to thank them for their support.”
The BLP invites the public to visit the service center at 1700 Eaton Drive in Grand Haven from October 7-15 for the following:
- Take home a free complimentary cove lantern with a BLP chip clip and a bag of Sweet & Salty Kettle Corn (while supplies last).
- Put your name in a drawing to win a free Google Nest Smart Thermostat.
- Say hello to our friendly and welcoming Customer Service Staff
“We love it when our customers come and visit and this gives everyone the perfect reason to stop by, say hello, grab some free goodies, and be entered into a fantastic drawing,” said Danielle Martin, Administrative Services Supervisor.
The BLP serves over 15,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers in the City of Grand Haven, City of Ferrysburg, Grand Haven, Spring Lake, and Robinson Townships.
