TWO WEEKS LEFT TO COMPLETE GRAND HAVEN BLP SURVEY FOR FEEDBACK ON SERVICE & UTILITY PLANNING

GRAND HAVEN, MICH., March 17, 2025 — There are two weeks left for residents and businesses to complete the Grand Haven Board of Light and Power’s (BLP) customer survey, which will help set the foundation for the utility’s future planning. A Quick Response (QR) Code and direct link was sent to every residential, commercial, and industrial customer receiving electric service from the BLP.

In addition to evaluating the quality of customer service, the BLP is seeking feedback regarding investments in local generation, future investments in renewables, a community solar project, and customer interest in energy-saving programming such as remote thermostat control.

“The benefit of being a local community owned electric utility is that our customers have a direct ability to provide feedback that impacts future decisions,” said Robert Shelley, BLP general manager.

The BLP has contracted with GreatBlue Research, a nationally-recognized public power market research firm, to design and conduct the survey. With results due back in April, GreatBlue is slated to present its findings to the board of directors in May. The BLP uses the results to guide the future of the utility and improve how it serves more than 15,000 customers in the Grand Haven community. The results will be valuable as the board enters into its five-year strategic planning session in early 2026.

“We recognize that our customers may get a lot of requests for surveys in this digital age,” said Mike Westbrook, board chair. “However, we really want to encourage everyone to take the time and share their experience, as well as their thoughts for the future. The BLP is grateful to have enjoyed strong customer participation rates in past surveys. We look forward to the feedback from our community as we continue our long tradition of providing award winning life essential reliable, affordable, and sustainable power.”

About the BLP | The BLP serves over 15,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers in the City of Grand Haven, City of Ferrysburg, Grand Haven, Spring Lake, and Robinson Townships.
